Last night at approximately 6:05pm Madison Hose Company # 1 was dispatched for a possible structure fire at 817 Boston Post Road. The initial alarm included an engine and tanker from North Madison, Guilford for RIT, an engine from Clinton, and Madison EMS. Chief of Department, Car 2-0, was first on scene within minutes and determined the fire was located at 20 Wall Street, part of the Scranton Library campus.

Command was established and reported a working fire with fire visible on the second floor of the A and D sides. A second alarm was transmitted bringing additional resources to the scene, including a ladder from Clinton, and an engine from both Killingworth and Guilford.

On arrival, Engine 251 was instructed to hit the hydrant at the corner of Boston Post Road and Wall Street and to lay into the scene. Truck 271 was positioned and set up to take the roof for ventilation, with 2 holes cut in the roof. Units made an aggressive interior attack with 2 attack lines stretched and in operation. Primary and secondary searches for victims were negative.

Strong work by responding units contained the fire to the area of origin. The scene was placed under control at 18:59pm. Westbrook provided coverage for Madison Hose Co. 1 and North Branford provided coverage for North Madison. No injuries were reported. The structure which is owned by the Scranton Library was undergoing renovations and was determined to be vacant at the time of the fire. The cause remains under investigation by the Madison Fire Marshall’s office.
